Gen is a man of intellect withou its likeness, and icecold calculates every one he meets, even his best friends and family. The only thing that overcomes his intellect, is his loyalty to Soul Society, and what he stands for, something that allowed him to do things no one else would do to try to help Soul Society.

Otherwise, a man who seems to entertain himself by playing with people and manipulate them a little bit, not the evil way, but mostly to tease them (Hiban mostly), even if he could go so far that it could endanger lives as long as it is help him reach his goal.
